The forum is on a new server and is using updated software: version 3.0.4 as opposed to 2.0.21. However, the database from the old forum (v2) is acting very oddly. Essentially, there are six years of posts and interspersed in those 28,000+ posts, there are apparently the occasional non-standard (non UFT-8) characters. These non-standard characters are making it difficult for the MySQL server to populate the database as it reads the non-standard characters as corrupted or suspicious data.

We've downloaded the database and have it safe but when we try to migrate it to a new MySQL server (or even the old one it was on) the server returns a series of fatal errors. While we are working on a solution and hope to have something worked out in the near future, I am not optimistic at the moment.

In the mean time, we have a fresh board and an enthusiastic community of like-minded individuals, so start with the conversations and questions and article writing already!

If there are requests for specific articles or threads, please let me know and I will see what I can do to either resurrect or replicate them. Also, please feel free to continue or restart any interrupted “mid-stream” threads and conversations that were cut off.

Were the user accounts lost as well? I had to create a new account.

Yes ... the accounts are/were part of the database.

Well, with all the old posts gone, I guess we get to ask all the newbie questions all over again. What are the differences between the different Bugei swords? Also, can swords be used to chop wood?

Hey, smileys work for me for the first time in a long time! Hurray! (Although they seem to be intended for a white background. :? )

Yep ... on my list of "annoyances" to fix.

That's unfortunate, I liked reading over the old posts as I felt they were a gold mine of information. At any rate, the new forums looking very good so I'm still happy.
